7 members/regular visitors to the club fought at the Kent Closed in Dartford, George Cullum (Tonbridge) and Molley Harvey both came away with a gold which guaranteed their place in the Southern Region Inter counties, brothers Kieran and Alan Maxwell both came with a silver medal and Reid Baldwin (Rainham) Regan Bourner (Walderslade) and Charley Harvey came away with a bronze each.
8 members of the club fought at the Kent International in Crystal Palace, from the start you could see this was not going to be an easy competition for our players, in fact it was described as one of the hardest competitions that Chelsey Edwards had ever entered, she fought her way to the medal places and secured a bronze, as did Alan Maxwell, Alan was not sure what happened as his opponent won the first bout in an impressive 5 seconds. Other club members were not as fortunate and were unable to gain a medal, however, I would like to congratulate them on giving such a hard competition a go, they are Reagan Bourner (Walderslade), Dan Bridges, Chantal Kitchener, Eddie Magson (injured), Kieran Maxwell and Harry Topping.
6 players from the club attended the Tsu-mo-ki open championship in Epping, it was a long day with a lot of waiting around, some parents were getting very frustrated. A good effort was put in by the members however, Amelia Topping, Dan and Robbie Bridges were unsuccessful and were knocked out of the medal places, Harry Topping came away with a bronze, both Eddie Magson and Chelsea Edwards came away with a gold
This years closed Nationals was held in Stalham Norfolk, we had 24 competitors attend, this was a record for the club. We filled a 53 seat coach with just our players and supporters, no one else in Kent seemed to want to go.
As you can imagine it was an early start 6am, everyone was there before the coach (I think it was my threat that I would leave with out them if they were not on time). The coach journey was really slow due to the law restricting the speed its allowed to go, and our 5 minute detour at the end.
The contests started with the white belts and from what I saw there was some good fights, with our youngest player biting back the tears after being thrown by players a lot bigger than her.
